Incense in the Bedchamber

Si Yan, the legitimate daughter of the Minister's household, has a prophetic dream: in it, she breaks off her engagement to her fiancé Jiang Youze when he falls on hard times. In the future, Jiang Youze becomes the Nine Thousand Years, wielding power over the entire court, and drags her back into a gilded cage to torment her day and night. Waking from the dream, Si Yan refuses to break the engagement. She sells all her jewelry to help her down-on-his-luck fiancé, who has entered the palace as a eunuch, forge connections—simply to save her life. But because of his own mutilation, Jiang Youze pushes her away again and again, yet she insists on closing the distance once more. One desperately seeks to give him a name; the other stakes everything on redeeming him. Through every rise and fall, all is willingly endured.
